Learn to Read Classical Literary Tibetan
Do you want to learn to read classical Tibetan, or want to improve your
ability beyond recognizing words? We can teach you how to read classical Tibetan
by showing you the underlying grammar, i.e., how Tibetan "works" one sentence at
a time.
We have found that by showing students how to recognize the recurrent patterns
of Tibetan grammar, students rapidly gain the ability and confidence to read
Tibetan correctly.
Students read selections from
textbooks used at Tibetan monastic colleges. Using these readings, students
learn some major themes of Tibetan Buddhism while gaining the vocabulary of
philosophical Buddhist Tibetan.
Classes for beginning, intermediate
and advanced students
Students at all levels benefit from learning a structured
presentation of Tibetan grammar. Students with prior reading experience tend to
pick up the 100 or so paradigms quickly and apply them to progressively more
complex readings.
